JoAnn Williams' Obituary
Memorial services for JoAnn Williams will be held 12:00 Noon Saturday at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, 1617 Judson Rd. JoAnn passed away February 25th at her residence in Longview. Interment will be at the City Cemetery in Daingerfield.
JoAnn was born September 14, 1934 to Joe and Mallie Williams of Daingerfield. The family moved to Longview a few years later where JoAnn received her education and graduated from Longview High School in 1953.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, but is survived by a host of friends, including her church family, her co-workers and students at the East Texas Literacy Council and her fellow members of the East Texas Community Choir. All of these activities brought so much joy, strength, and purpose into JoAnn?s life.
She was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, Longview, and served in many capacities there through the years. Her love for church opened the way in the 1960?s for JoAnn?s move to Boston to serve for two years at The Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist. She remained forever grateful for her experience in Boston and spoke of it often.
For many years and until its closing, JoAnn was employed by Riff?s. Prior to that she was a swimming instructor at the YMCA and taught private swim lessons at her home. JoAnn was tireless and found rewarding work as a caregiver in recent years. At the time of her passing, she was serving with the East Texas Literacy Council, which she loved. JoAnn?s participation in the East Texas Community Choir was a natural extension of her love for music.
JoAnn loved children, the outdoors and fishing. She was an avid fan of her Longview Lobos football team and faithfully supported their games. Her enthusiasm, joy and laughter lifted us all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Church of Christ, Scientist, P.O. Box 1226, Longview, TX 75606; or to the East Texas Literacy Council, 320 E. Methvin St., Longview, TX 75601.
