JoAnn is one of the few that I held to my heart closely during my time at Arabella, she didn’t talk often but I had the pleasure of her calling me by name twice and telling me she loved me. These might not seem like much to just anyone, but when you get close to someone who can’t express themselves in the way they’re wanting to, it means so much. I remember her sweet smile and her ability to listen even if she had trouble responding, her attentiveness to every little thing and her bright personality. One of the things I remember the most is how much Mr. Payne loved her, his face would light up every time I told him how she was doing and what she had done I’m the time was there, the days she would talk or do a little dance when moving her to another seat, he would always be so excited and I made it habit to let him know each day that I could. He would tell me about their life together and how she was as beautiful and intelligent as the day he met her and that he would always see her that way. I learned valuable lessons between the both of them, I learned to be patient, to be attentive and to also show compassion because you never knew what was going on in someone else’s mind. Both JoAnn and Mr. Payne were brilliant minded individuals who will always have a place in my heart. My condolences go to Robin, to the caregivers whom cared so incredibly much for Mrs. Payne and the rest of their sweet family.
