JoAnn Killingsworth Lovick's Obituary
JoAnn Killingsworth Lovick was born on July 4, 1934 in Longview, TX to Margaret C. and James W. Killingsworth. She was at peace when the Lord called her home on September 25th. JoAnn spent her childhood in Longview, graduating from Longview High School in 1952. She married George A. ‘Buddy’ Lovick in 1954, to whom she was married for 52 years and who remained her true love for the remainder of her life.
JoAnn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her mission in life was to always be of service to friends, family and community. Throughout her life she was involved in the Scouting program holding positions from Cub Scout Den Mother, to wife/mother of members of Troop 201, one the first two women to attend the Wood Badge program, and recipient of the Silver Beaver award. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Hospital Auxiliary for 10 years and served as its President in 1979. She was the primary care giver to her husband and close family friend VG Rollins, during their final years. There was no challenge that JoAnn would not undertake. Seemingly, she had an endless reserve of energy and commitment.
JoAnn’s family and friends knew her as a woman with a pioneering spirit and a no-quit attitude. She was a devoted Christian and an active member of First Baptist Church of Longview. Her love of family, friends and community was without limits.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George (Buddy) Lovick and son-in-law Dennis Johnson. Also, JoAnn was preceded in death by many beloved fur babies.
JoAnn is survived by her daughters, Maggie Johnson of Alvin, TX, Judy and son in-law Russell Buckstaff of Longview, and son, Bill Lovick and daughter in-law, Krista of Sharpspburg, GA. She was blessed with two grandchildren by whom she is also survived, Lindsay and husband Josh Aaron, and Christopher Buckstaff and wife Kasey. She is also survived by her two sisters, Bernice “Permie” Kranz and Delcie Fleming.
The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home Friday, September 28th, from 5:00 – 7:00. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29th, at 10:00 at Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Bobby Kranz officiating. She will be entombed at Rosewood Park Mausoleum.
