Jo Ann Malone's Obituary
Jo Ann Malone, 93, of Longview, Texas passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on December 15, 2025. A graveside service will be held at Gum Spring Cemetery on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
Jo Ann was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma on May 26th, 1932, to Ernest and Mabel Long and moved to Longview at the age of 9. She met the love of her life, Charles Malone, while attending Longview High School. Jo Ann was an active member of the Lobo tennis team, bowling team, Masque and Wig club (Theater), English Club, Student Council, and Tri-Hi-Y. She graduated from Longview High School in 1950. Jo Ann and Charles married in July 1952 and were happily married for 61 years. In their early years of marriage, Jo Ann worked at several clinics and doctor offices in El Paso, TX while Charles was drafted into the Army and later in Ruston, LA while Charles attended Louisiana Tech. It was at Tech that Jo Ann and Charles met their lifelong friends Rigg and Sue Mardis, whom they shared many travels and celebrations. In 1960 they moved back to Longview, where she continued to devote her time and energy to supporting her husband’s love of football and her growing family. Jo Ann was awarded a lifetime membership of the Valley View PTA. She was an active member of First Christian Church and their many organizations. Jo Ann was an avid gardener, baker, cook, angler, and camper. Her fondest memories were of gatherings of friends and family which always ended in a heated game of spades or dominoes. Jo Ann will always be remembered for her welcoming smile, warm hugs, enduring love for her husband, sons, family, friends and of course her famous oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Mabel Long; husband, Charles Malone; brother, David Long; sister Sandra Shipp and husband Caroll Mack; daughter-in- law, Piper Malone; and granddaughter, Rylee Malone. Jo Ann is survived by her son, Bart Malone; son, Andy and wife Leslie; grandchildren, Chris Malone and wife Joyce; Paige Palmer and husband Jacob; Makenzi Cobb and husband David; Chad Malone; Kennedy Malone; and Hunter Malone; great-grandchildren, Charlee; Lynnlee; Michael-David; Abigail; Oliver; Averlee; Charlotte; David; and Henry; sisters-in-law, Mary Long; Suzanne Malone; Linda Benson; Jerry Malone; Sheryl Sims; and Martha Malone; brothers-in-laws, Danny Malone and wife Nancy; John Woody Malone and many nieces and nephews.
