Jimmy Ray Walker's Obituary
Jimmy Ray Walker peacefully ascended into the arms of his loving Savior on Friday morning, January 24,2025, embraced by eternal grace and love. He was a man with a deep love for God, family, friends, and of course, his Longhorns. We take comfort in knowing that Jimmy is now dancing the funky Walker on this great reunion in the golden streets of Heaven, singing karaoke with the angels’ choruses.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Raymond and Ida Walker; his maternal grandparents, Juarez and Marjorie Gual; and his parents, Raymond Walker (1968) and Marjorie Franklin (2016).
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Judy Walker and daughters Christy Boyce (Danny) and Kimberly Solomon (Buzz); his five grandchildren: Ashley Boyce-Fraga (Wyatt), Elizabeth Boyce, Ryan Boyce, Landon Broad, and Brendan Broad; his sister, Karen Freeman (Keith); nephews Michael (Amy) and David Freeman (Holly); and their four precious children, Walker, Laura, Wyatt, and Charlotte. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Steve Horton (Mitzi), and their children, Shelby (Jordan), Meghan, and Austin (Savannah), as well as his great-niece and great-nephew, Avery and Hunter.
Born on February 2, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, to his first loves, Marjorie Gual Walker and Raymond Abner Walker, Jimmy was raised alongside his younger sister, Karen Ann Freeman. Her ‘Bubba’, was her champion and hero, always looking out for his little ‘sis’. In 1953, the family moved to East Texas, where Jimmy later met his high school sweetheart, Judy Faye Horton. The two married in 1965, and together they built a beautiful life in Longview, Texas.
One of Jimmy’s greatest joys was his family. Together, Jimmy and Judy raised two daughters, Christy and Kimberly. Through them, 5 grandchildren (Ashley, Elizabeth, Ryan, Landon, and Brendan)), his legacy lives on. His grandchildren lovingly referred to him as “Poppy” and he took great joy in spending time with them, always generous with his love – and never failed to send then off with a bit of “walking around money.” Jimmy was also deeply loved by his extended family, and his affection for them was just as boundless.
Jimmy rarely met a stranger. He was blessed with many treasured friends- some whom had known him a for a lifetime. He was known for his quick wit and humor and loved recounting the good times and shenanigans shared with his friends. His warm heart and generous spirit made him so easy to love, and he considered his friends as family.
As we bid farewell to Jimmy, we remember the warmth of his love, the joy his humor brought everyone around him, and the enduring example of a life well lived. Memories of him will forever bring a smile to our faces, and his legacy will inspire us give generously, to laugh often, dance without hesitation, and to love big. To know Jimmy was to love him, and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
