Jimmy Lee Higgins
Celebration of Life services for Jimmy Lee (Jim) Higgins, will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the First Baptist Church, 300 Depot Street in Avinger, Texas at 2:PM. with Reverend George McVay, officiating. Jim was born September 5, 1942, in Monroe, LA and died on January 27, 2016, surrounded by family in his home in Avinger, TX.
He graduated from Holly Ridge High School in Holly Ridge, LA. Soon after graduating from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA, he and his wife, Nan, moved to Arlington, Texas, and began a long and diverse career in Electrical Engineering with Vought Aircraft Co. in Grand Prairie, TX.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alice Nannette (Nan) Fortenberry Higgins also of Rayville, LA, mother Jessie Marie Hodnett Higgins, and sister, Barbara Taylor. Jim and Nan raised three sons; Darin Higgins of Bedford, TX, Shannon Higgins of Carson City, NV, and Anthony (Tony) Higgins of Pittsburg, PA, and one granddaughter, Gillian Higgins. His father, Percy Higgins, preceded him in death.
After retiring, Jim spent two years building his dream retirement home with Nan in Avinger, and, when able, was involved with the Cal Farley Boys Ranch in Amarillo and with the Texas Ramp Project helping to build wheelchair ramps around Avinger.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the Cal Farley Boys Ranch, 600 SW 11th Ave. Amarillo, TX 75601.
