Jim Mitchell Amos' Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, Jim Mitchell Amos of Longview, Texas. Born in Gilmer, Texas on March 9, 1948 to N.L. Amos and Ernestine Smith Amos, Jim peacefully departed us on April 2, 2024. Jim leaves behind a legacy that his family will forever cherish.
Jim married Lenora Farnell Amos in 1968, and they spent many happy years together until her passing in 2013. From this union came two children who consider themselves the luckiest around, daughter Angela Amos Jones and son Alan Amos. Jim had many passions in his life but none greater than his family.
He obtained an Associate Degree from Kilgore College, served for a short time in the Army, was a Gregg County Sheriff’s Deputy for several years before having children, and retired from Rexam Beverage Cans America after nearly 40 years. Jim was also a proud member of the Shriner’s Mounted Unit and a founding member of the Gregg County Sheriff’s Mounted Unit.
Jim was a man of integrity and kindness. He was a loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed many years of coaching Dixie Youth Baseball, travelling both the U.S. and abroad, and catching as many rodeos as possible. The last 10 years he has delighted in travelling with his loving partner Carol McDowell.
Jim is proceeded in death by his parents N.L. and Ernestine Amos, his wife Lenora Amos, his brother Dennis Amos, and his sister Marilyn Amos Moore. He is survived by his daughter Angela Amos Jones, son Alan Amos and wife Christi, grandchildren Julianna and Jace Jones, and Cason, Sawyer, and Avery Gail Amos, and partner Carol McDowell.
Jim will forever be remembered as a man of honor and generosity.
