Jewel Marie Bown's Obituary
Memorial services for Jewel G. Bown, 93, of Longview will be Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 12 noon at the chapel at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Visitation will be at 11:00 AM prior to the memorial service. Mrs. Bown passed away on Wednesday morning February 15, 2012 at a local nursing home.
Jewel Marie Gibson Bown was born on June 7, 1918 in Mira, Louisiana to Jesse Franklin Gibson and William Jewel Bryan Howard. She graduated from Longview High School and Mary Hardin-Baylor College. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Longview and was married to her beloved husband, Henry M. Bown, in the old chapel of First Baptist Church on January 30, 1943. Mrs. Bown was a true Bible scholar and taught Sunday School and bible studies for many years. She was also a dedicated volunteer of the Good Shepherd Medical Center Auxiliary for over thirty years. She loved to read and travel and especially spend time with her family.
Mrs. Bown was preceded in death by her husband Henry; two brothers Jesse and Melvin Gibson and her parents. She is survived by her daughters and their spouses, Karolanne and Tommy Thompson of Duncanville, Texas and Leeanne and Ronnie Davis of Tyler, Texas, formerly of Longview; grandchildren, Zach and Kelli Davis of Tyler, Texas, Corey Anne Davis of Dallas, Texas, Stacey Thurston of Fort Worth, Texas and Jarrod Thompson of Duncanville, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Savannah and Ethan Thurston of Fort Worth and Carter and Joshua Davis of Tyler; niece and her spouse Rosalind and Dewey Winder of Lake Mary, Florida and numerous other nieces and nephews.
