Jessie Lou Dean Byers' Obituary
The life of Jessie Lou Dean Byers, 93, will be celebrated and honored at Rader Funeral Home on Friday, June 5, 2026 with Pastor Michael Cook of Oakland Heights Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. with Services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Rosewood Park Mausoleum.
Lou Dean passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, surrounded by family.
Lou Dean was born on October 15, 1932, in West Frankfort, Illinois. She married Elvin “Sid” Byers, the love of her life, on June 30, 1950. After marriage they moved to Northern Virginia where Lou Dean attended Business College and she worked at the Pentagon.
Over the years Lou Dean was on the Girl Scout Board of Directors and was a 44 year member of Eastern Star. She sang with Sweet Adeline’s most of her adult life and was an avid golfer, winning the Oak Forest Women’s Club Championship numerous times.
Lou Dean was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church for many years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many and will be greatly missed.
Lou Dean is survived by her daughters, Sandra Kay Birdwell, Willis, TX, Melanie Lou LeTourneau (Tom), Benton, KY, grandson, Corey Lee Schmidt, Clarksville, TN, granddaughters, Lee Ann Adams (Trace), Magnolia, TX, Brandy Marie Schmidt, Woodbridge, VA, Wendy Dawn Koss (Darren) Willis, TX, 5 great-grandchildren and 4 great- great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial donations to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
