Jesse Ray Garner's Obituary
Jesse Ray Garner, 73, passed away August 8, 2023, at home surrounded by his loved ones after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Jesse was born September 23, 1949, in Shreveport, LA and migrated to Texas where he made his career as a Longview Police officer from October 1, 1982, to June 30, 2007. Jesse was passionate about his job, loved people and never met a stranger. He made quite an impact on the city and inner communities he patrolled. He was a Police area representative in his later career years. Jesse excelled in this role, taking pride every day with his gift of relating to everyone he met, involving himself with crime prevention, neighborhood watches and genuine care about the people he served and protected.
Family was the most important thing to Jesse. He loved cooking and BBQs for family gatherings, where he always prepared his famous briskets or deer chili. He had many hobbies that he enjoyed his entire life including hunting and fishing and classic cars, anyone that knew him, knew his passion for Ford Mustangs. He loved the outdoors and greatly appreciated nature. Jesse considered many people his family.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Melinda Garner, daughters Sarah Reese, Tina Bunghart, Son Eric Martin, brothers Eddie Garner, Leonard Garner, and Tony Garner, and his 5 grandchildren whom were the apple of his eye.
Jesse will be missed, his memory cherished by all who knew him and the impact he made in the lives of everyone he knew and loved.
