Jerry P. Thomas' Obituary
Funeral services for Jerry P. Thomas, 72, of Longview, will be 2 PM Thursday, February 27, 2003 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home,
1617 Judson Rd. with Dr. Laney Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Rusk County Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full honors by the Gregg County Sheriff?s Department.
Mr. Thomas died Monday, February 24, 2003 at Baylor Medical Center
in Dallas after a sudden illness.
Jerry was born November 18, 1930 in Madisonville, Texas and had resided in Longview for the past 50 years. He served his country during the Korean War as an A & E mechanic in the Air Force with the rank of sergeant.
He was employed for 16 years with Texas Eastman in Longview before
starting and operating his own oilfield service company in 1970. He was hired in 1977 by Petro Lewis Corp. to become their Area Superintendent in charge of all oilfield operations. For the past 16 years he had worked with the Gregg County Sheriff?s Dept. and
was sergeant in security at the Gregg County Courthouse, and was
a member of Mobberly Baptist Church in Longview.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Jeanne Thomas of
Longview; daughters, Jackie Thomas Schupp and her husband Bert, of Hallsville, and Judy Thomas and her fiancee Johnny Colbert of Houston, sister-in-law, Kathlyn Cannon of Sulphur Springs; brother-in-law, Kenneth Reaves of New London; granddaughter, Tracy Ann Schupp of Hallsville; grandson, Bryan Thomas Schupp of Hallsville and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM
Wednesday, February 26, 2003.
Pallbearers will be Chief Robert Harshaw, Lt. David Taylor, Deputy David Dickerson, Deputy Tracy Freeman, Deputy Glen Cobb, Deputy John Dove.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deputy Rodney Blackstock, Investigator Mike Maxey and friend Eugene Younger.
