LYLE J. 'JERRY' MYERS
The Rosary for Lyle J. "Jerry" Myers , 65, of Longview will be recited at 6:45 PM Wednesday at the Rader Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 3:30 PM Thursday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church with Monsignor Xavier Pappau officiating. Mr. Myers died Monday evening at a local medical center.
He was born October 16, 1943 in Temple, Texas to Lyle Franklin and Marydell Scarlett Myers. A lifetime resident of Longview, Jerry was a retired financial consultant with A.G. Edwards & Sons. He also served as Vice President and Escrow Officer & Marketing Manager of U.S. Title Company.
His real estate career began with Wheeley and Myers Real Estate Company; then he was owner of Century 21-Jerry Myers Company; he had designations of G.R.I. Graduate, Realtor Institute of Texas, C.R.S. Certified Residential Specalist and CRB Certified Marketing Management Broker.
Jerry began his teaching career s a history teacher at Foster Middle School in the mid-60's. He also taught real estate courses at Kilgore College-Longview and taught many of today's real estate agents.
While in real estate, he was a past president of the Longview Board of Realtors and was honored as Realtor of the Year in 1978; also president of Century 21-East Texas Council, Honored as Longview Bank & Trust-"People of our Community Make a Difference" in 1982. He served on the board of directors of the Longview Chamber of Commerce as a member of the legislative Committee on which he was active on a state and national level. Jerry was a graduate of Pine Tree High School-Class of 1961; attended Kilgore College and was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University. He served as a Past President of the Greggton Noon Lions Club and the East Texas Fly Fishers. Jerry loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Longview Masonic Lodge #404.
Survivors include his wife, Emily of Longview; his sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Julie Myers and Patrick and Tracy Myers of White Oak; a step-son and wife, Dan Felsenthal and Stephanie of Tyler; a step-daughter and husband, Kathryn Felsenthal Stephens and Matt of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren: Hayden Myers, Chris Myers, D.J. Johnson, Trey Stephens, Connor Stephens, Grant Felsenthal, Adeline Felsenthal, and Jack Felsenthal; sister and husband, Marilyn Myers Bailey and Robert of Longview; brother and wife, Robert Myers and Rose of The Colony, Texas; Aunt and husband, Elizabeth Ann Morgan and Bill of Dallas; uncle and wife, W.C. Scarlett and Madgie of Longview.
Pallbearers will be Herman Bell, Dave Spurrier, Jimmy Boyle, Troy Schop, Tuck Kemper, and Adam Graves.
Visitation will follow Rosary Services Wednesday evening.
