Mr. Lucy was born on November 7, 1924 in Elderville, Texas to Jerry Joseph and Annie Helen Lucy. He passed away on September 25, 2003 in a Longview hospital.
Mr. Lucy graduated from Longview High School and in 1948 graduated with an agriculture degree from Texas A&M University. He was a county extension agent in both Rains and Bowie Counties and a tractor and implement dealer for a number of years.
There are two kinds of people in our world. Those who give, and those who take. Lucy was a man who gave. Those organizations that supported youth have a special place in Jerry?s heart. He served on the scholastic committee for the Harvest Festival Board of Directors and helped organize the scholarship program for the Upshur Rual Electric Coop. He was President of the East Texas Area Campfire Girls for two years.
Jerry was a man who did not seek personal recognition, but he received many awards including Man of the Year in Agriculture from the Texas County Agents Association, The Bill Clements memorial Award for Outstanding Leadership in Agriculture, and the Halsey Gulich Volunteer Service Award.
Jerry was the driving force in introducing the round hay balers to East Texas. He was the Vermeer National Sales Champion in 1990 and for a number of years thereafter. His cattle and forage operations were used for many field day demonstrations.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Lucy was preceded in death by his parents.
