Jerome J. "Jerry" Costa
Graveside services for Jerry Costa will be Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 10 AM in Rosewood Park with Reverend David Reeder Officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Jerry was born on September 23, 1933 in New Orleans, LA. to Archield Costa and Lucille A. Fonatine. He passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 in Longview.
Jerry served with the US Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. His greatest love was working with the Gregg County Association for Retarded Citizens which is now known as the Arc of Gregg County. During this time he received the Outstanding Volunteer Award, Lifetime Member Award, and Award for his participation in the Special Olympics Program and many others. He retired from Stroh Brewery in 1996 after 28 years of serving in the maintenance.
Mr. Costa was preceded in death by his parents' his brother, Merlin Jacobs, Jr.; and his niece, Dianne Tell.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda; sons, Jeff Costa of Marshall and Bart Costa of Valley Mills, TX; sister and brother-in-law, Muriel and Charles Staunton; nephew and his wife, Donald and Babette Staunton; great nephews, Edward and Alexander all of Metairie, LA.; a great niece, Rachel Tell of Apopka, Fl.; as well as on of the best friends a person could have, Harry Allbright.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Longview Cancer Center, 1300 N. 4th Street, Longview, Texas 75601, or Beacon Hospice~ Margaret's House, PO BOX 5908, Longview, Texas 75608.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM, Friday, September 26, 2008 at the funeral home, 1617 Judson Road in Longview.
