Jerald D. Lunsford's Obituary
Jerald D. Lunsford, nicknamed Toppy by his grandmother and Pappy by his grandchildren, was healed on March 13, 2023, when he stepped into the presence of our Lord and Savior in Heaven. Visitation will be held at Rader Funeral home on Thursday, March 16, 6:00-7:30. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be at Spring Hill First Baptist Church with Wayne Spanhanks officiating on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 11:00.
Born to Burdeen and Jessie Lunsford on September 21, 1937, he was the oldest of four children. He graduated from Carlisle High School, served in the U.S. Army, retired from Eastman Chemical Company, and spent the remainder of his career in the oilfield until his retirement from Vintage Petroleum as a Production Foreman in 2006. While he was making a living, he built a legacy money can’t buy.
Waiting for Pappy in Heaven were his parents, all his siblings, his treasured son in law (Joey), and his great love, Linda (Howard) Lunsford whom he married on December 23, 1958. Their word was gold, and their love story will impact generations. Together, they had three children. Craig Lunsford, Christi Comer, and Lori McNeese (James) grew up with the battle cry of “lean forward and push” instilled by their father who inspired them to persevere – especially in that most challenging last season. His character never shifted even as his body failed. The battle cry is also embraced by his treasured grandchildren who leaned on his wisdom. Grandchildren include Grace Lunsford, Jeremy Comer (Patricia), Casey McKnight (James), Justin Comer, Shelby Moore (Josh), Corben McNeese (Grace), and Mabry McNeese. Our “Littles” entertained, hugged, and loved on Pappy bringing him the sweetest joy and laughter during his final days. Great grandchildren include Everly Lunsford, Brayden and Jamison Comer, Faith (Trevin), Cherish, Grace, and Chance Olsen, Riley, Ayden, Madie, and Tucker McKnight, and Olivia Moore. Great-great grandchildren include Millicent Walton, Cambria and Ramona Baker. His brother and sisters in law, nieces and nephews were cherished by him and loved him well.
Pappy was kind, honest and gentle. But above all, Pappy was a peacemaker.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
