Jenny Lou Lewis Rappeport's Obituary
Jenny Lou Lewis Rappeport passed away peacefully in Austin on Friday, November 30, 2018, at the age of 75 years after battling Huntington’s disease.
A native Texan, Jenny spent her childhood at the J&L Ranch before moving to Longview, TX. She fondly recalled her first interaction with human “kids” at her first Longview birthday party – her early friends on the ranch had been goats.
She loved the outdoors – hunting, fishing, skiing - and spent eight fun-filled summers as a Tejas at Camp Waldemar in Hunt, TX. She was named Ideal Waldemar Girl in 1959 – a title that she carried with her proudly.
Jenny graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas in Austin. She began her career as a teacher but found her true passion in traveling the world finding luxury hotels and travel experiences as part of Jackson Travel.
She married Dr. Joseph H. Rappeport in 1971. While she never lost her love of travel, she transitioned her passion to charities, including serving as President of the Junior League of Longview.
After moving to Austin last summer, she enjoyed spending time with Jennifer and Ted trying new restaurants and visiting her ranch.
Jenny is survived by her daughter, Jennifer (Ted) Allison, by “Dallas” Joe, cousin Sharon (Will) Green and numerous friends.
A Celebration of Jenny’s life will be held at 12 pm, on Wednesday, December 5, at the Summit Club, 3700 Judson Rd, Longview, TX 75605.
Donations in memory of Jenny Rappeport can be made to the Huntington’s Disease Society of America, c/o Nancy A. Rhodes, 505 8th Avenue, Suite 902, New York, NY 10018.
