Jean Pearre Moore's Obituary
Jean Pearre Moore was born August 28, 1946, in Weslaco, Texas, to Edith Shrode Pearre and Charles Morgan Pearre II, and passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord, August 6, 2024, in Longview, Texas.
She grew up in Weslaco graduating in 1964 from Weslaco High School. She was a twirler in both Junior and Senior High School. Along the way she took piano, clarinet and voice lessons. Jean was twice a Princess of Weslaco for the annual Weslaco Birthday celebration. Having a volunteer aptitude, Jean was an officer in various clubs throughout her life. Early among them was Weslaco Senior Class Treasurer where she collected a quarter from each student to go on a Senior trip to South Padre Island.
Upon graduation from high school, Jean enrolled in the University of Texas at Austin. She was member of the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and was a history major. While at UT she met the love of her life, Edward “Ed” Clark Moore IV. Upon graduating with her bachelor’s degree, Jean and Ed were married June 22, 1968, at First Methodist Church, Weslaco, Texas. They spent 56 wonderful, happy years together often simply enjoying holding hands with each other.
After Ed was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy in October, 1968, the couple moved to San Diego, California, where Ed was assigned to the USS Wexford County, LST 1168. One highlight of their time in the Navy was in 1970, when Jean flew to Hong Kong to meet Ed for a week during the ship’s deployment to Vietnam. After leaving the Navy, they lived in Sanger, Texas, and Edna, Texas, where Ed served as City Manager. They moved to Longview, Texas, in September, 1980, where Ed served as Assistant City Manager and later in the private sector field of public finance.
Jean was active in the Newcomers Club and Pine Tree schools PTA throughout the time her children were in school. She worked part time in advertising sales which gave her the time to volunteer with various committees and church. Jean and Ed were 44-year members of First United Methodist Church and the Grace Lowrey Sunday School Class. She was an active member of United Methodist Women serving as Treasurer for a number of years and was the designated van driver. Jean was an avid bridge player. She was a member of a number of bridge groups making many lifelong friends along the way. Jean and Ed loved to travel, taking over 30 cruises and several land tours visiting 58 countries.
Jean’s first priority in life was always to look after her family, and she gives thanks to God for sharing life with Ed and her children, Stephen, born in 1972, and Michele, born in 1978. She was unselfish, always thinking of others before herself. She was predeceased by both parents and her brother Charles. She is survived by husband and best friend, Ed Moore; son Stephen Moore and wife Abbie; daughter Michele Fried and husband Jeremy Fried; and granddaughters Moxie Moore and Éowyn Fried.
The family wants to thank Accent Hospice and Visiting Angels for the care given to Jean in her time of need. In lieu of flowers, Jean wanted donations to be made to the United Methodist Women, c/o Longview FUMC, 400 N. Fredonia St., Longview, TX 75601.
A private graveside service will be held next week. A memorial will be held at Longview FUMC at 1pm on Monday, September 9.
