Jay Sosland
Jay Sosland, 70, passed away Friday, July 5th at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas following a prolonged illness.
Funeral services will be 12 Noon Monday, July 8th at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Rabbi Heidi Coretz officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Park Cemetery.
Jay is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Dawn Sperling Sosland of Longview; Five children: Shalene Sosland of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Martin Sosland and wife Karen, Erica Prager and husband Bill, and Jayna Sosland of Dallas, and Steve Sosland and wife Kelly of Fredericksburg, Texas; Five Grandchildren, Elissa and Marshall Sosland and Leah Prager of Dallas and Rachel and Rebekah Sosland of Fredericksburg.
Jay was born December 9, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri and his family moved to Longview when he was an infant. His father, Morris, opened Sosland Jewelers on Fredonia Street. Jay was a lifelong resident of Longview where he graduated from Longview High School in 1948. He attended the University of Texas and joined the United States Navy to serve during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Longview and served the community as he worked in business for over 45 years. He was a founding member and past President of Temple Emanu-El Synagogue.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Temple Emanu-El, the American Diabetes Association, the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation or a charity of choice.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the devoted team of doctors and the kind and compassionate staff of A-600 at Good Shepherd Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be Bill Prager, Ken Blatt and Rowan Blatt of Dallas; Herman Goodman of Shreveport, and Bruce Meador, Peter Frenkel, Max Statman, and Rusty Milstein of Longview.
