Ellen, my deepest condolences for the loss of Jay, and my apology for not knowing until now that he had passed.
I, of course, only got to know Jay through conversations with him at our '68 Rebels reunions. But the last conversation, in October 2023, continued most of the way through dinner, and I truly came to appreciate him.
What an intelligent, friendly, wonderful, worldly man he was -- and a just plain cool head. He was all that in spite of being seriously affected by then by a progressive disease. I kept thinking, "What a lucky and smart woman Ellen was to have connected with and spent her life with this man..."
I know that you have the resources, both through your own emotional strength and your family and friends, to carry on with the remainder of your journey on this earth. Please remember that Jay impressed a lot of people, including a relative stranger in myself, with what a superb human being he was. --Jeff
So sad to hear of Jay Ts passing. My parents moved to Dallas from Illinois when I was 3 years old...1951. One of the first neighborhood kids I met was Jay T. He lived down the street on Matador Dr. There was a Studebaker parked in his driveway. We attended Stephen C Foster Elementary School. My family moved. We caught up again at TJ and WT White when it opened. We played on a Rec Center basketball team together called "Wastebasket." Pat Somerville was on that team along with a few guys from TJ. Jay T was a great man.

Ellen, this is Darlene Matthews. I was so sorry to hear of Jay's passing. I was not aware of his illness. Before Jay quit practicing, my son Dominic had to have dental work done. Jay did it for him. I was so impressed with him. Besides being a great dentist, he was a wonderful human being, which is rare today. He was always the kindest person when we would go in for an appointment. Of course, my memory of your family goes back to an Israel trip that I hosted, and you and Leah went with me. You and Jay hosted the group after we returned at your lake house. These are such precious memories.
I am giving a memorial to the Asbury House Child Enrichment Center in his honor. While my husband Jerry was at First Methodist, he was connected to Asbury House. I've always had a place in my heart for it.
I am so sorry for your loss. I have experienced what you are going through. God will be faithful.
In 1971 we gathered as a class of 100 students at University of Texas Dental Branch in Houston. No doubt during our four years together that a BLESSING was to become friends of Jay Gordon. He brought so much joy to all he met. Jay’s smile was infectious.The successful life he & Ellen created was all in God’s plan. Know those in Longview & family will miss him tremendously but the memory he leaves soothes all our hearts. He and Ellen faced his medical situation with God. Dear Ellen we are so sorry for the loss of a great man and especially sorry for your loss of a good husband. Jay was the gentlest dental surgeon that Dottie and I ever experienced. We enjoyed knowing you and Jay over the last years. We regret at not being able to attend what will be a beautiful memorial service due to our inhibited physical condition. Jay made us all laugh in the Genesis Sunday school class at Christmas. His “ anonymous “ white elephant gift showed up for several years. A taxidermied old squirrel. It must have been his first trophy, as beat up as it was. Thank you, Jesus, for Jay and Ellen.
Truely a man that lived out God's purpose. Working with him was a privilege and I am so grateful of all he taught me. Words can't express how sad I am to hear about him passing but I know he is no longer suffering and is with his father in heaven. Ellen, Reese, Leah, Andrew love you all
