Janice Lynn Carr's Obituary
Janice Lynn Carr was born to Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Carr on July 7, 1955. The fifth of seven children, Janice was always a spirited, fun loving person. Her flair for the dramatics was greatly inspired by her teachers throughout her school days.
She was educated in the Birmingham Public School System where she earned a scholarship to Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. While there, she became a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority. Later she served as the president of the Longview Alumni Chapter. Upon graduation from Jarvis, Janice did not return to Alabama, but decided to make Texas her home. She taught school in the Longview Independent School District for 25 years. Year after year, she was delighted by her very special students.
Janice accepted Jesus Christ as a very young girl at Morning Star Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama and she was a member of Galilee Baptist Church in Longview.
On September 1, 2006, Janice departed this life. She was preceded in death by her father, Rufus Carr; her sister Gloria; and her brother Rufus Carr, Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Adam and LaToyna Scott of Dallas, TX, Christopher Scott of Waco, TX, Jaysen Runnels of Longview, and daughter Cassie Runnels of Longview; 2 grandchildren, Alanna and Adariyan Scott of Dallas; her mother, Mrs. Mattie Carr of Birmingham; 4 sisters, Mary Oneal of Chesapeake, VA, Carolyn Carr of Detroit, MI, Kim and Tony Wooden of Westland, MI, and Tracy and Michael Powell of Fayetville, GA; 3 uncles, 3 aunts and many other relatives and friends.
