Janice Vreeland Doss' Obituary
Janice Vreeland Doss passed away in her sleep in Longview, Texas, on May 16, 2018 at the age of 88. She was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on April 3, 1930, to Chester Chase and Nancy Houghton Vreeland. After graduating from Alma College in 1952, Janice worked briefly in Detroit and then moved to California where she met, fell in love, and married Earl Young Doss, a Radarman First Class in the U.S. Navy. A trip to visit Earl’s family in East Texas turned into a move and Janice lived the rest of her life in Texas, mainly in Longview and Houston. She worked for many years for the Dept. of Human Resources as a Social Worker, Supervisor, and Program Director, before she and Earl opened and ran a Kwik Kopy print shop in Longview. Janice will be remembered for her extraordinary ability to see the bright side of every situation. She had a wonderful sense of humor and an insatiable curiosity. Prior to being hindered by dementia, Janice was an avid Genealogist (which led to discoveries that included at least two ancestors who were passengers on the Mayflower) and a competitive Duplicate Bridge player. Janice is survived by her brother Donald Vreeland and his wife Martha; daughters and their husbands; Nancy and Aamir Chaudhry, Pamela and Cėsar Nieto, Susan and Mike Perez, and Paige and Mike Williams; grandchildren; Bilal, Tavo, Dominica, Kyle, Jarrett, Alex, Lance, Roy, Ralen, Carissa, Reed and Ross, and 8 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Janice is preceded in death by her husband, Earl. A private remembrance will take place. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
