James R. Pitts' Obituary
Funeral services for James R. "Jimmy" Pitts, 69, of Longview, will be 12 Noon Wednesday, January 14, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Reverend Richard Jones and Dr. Randy Pitts officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery.
Mr. Pitts went to be with his Lord on January 12, 2009 in a Longview hospital.
A native of Paris, Arkansas, he was born March 25, 1939 to Melvin and Irene Pitts, Sr. He moved to Longview from Arkansas at age 13 and remained in the area the rest of his life. Mr. Pitts married Virginia Gibson November 17, 1961 in Longview. Jimmy served his country for three years active duty in the US Army, being stationed in Germany and three years reserve. He loved all outdoor sports and particularly baseball and fishing. He supported boy's baseball for many years as Coach and served on the Board of Directors for Hallsville and Spring Hill school districts. He currently was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church and was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church and had been active in Hope Community Church. Jimmy was into woodworking and was known as the "swing man".
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister: Nola Reese
Beloved Husband, Dad and PawPaw, he is survived by his wife: Virginia of Longview, sons: Randy Pitts of Longview and Steven Pitts and wife Shanna Pitts of Destrehan, LA, grandchildren: Chelsi, Noah, and Bayli Pitts of Longview, Laney, Katie and Blaine Pitts of Destrehan, LA., brothers: Melvin Pitts, Jr. and wife Della of Lake O' The Pines, and Paul Pitts and wife Sue of Lubbock, sister: Neva Lopez of Kilgore, Mother in law: Fannie Gibson of Longview, in-laws: Milton and Nalda Gibson, Wendell Gibson, June and Allen Mickelboro and Linda Rogers, all of Longview and numerous nieces and nephews who were dear to him.
