James Frank Willis' Obituary
James Frank Willis, 42, of Dallas and formerly of Longview, TX, died on Monday, November 4, 2024. Born on April 3, 1982 in Longview, he was the son of the late James Rodney Willis and Denise Bufkin Soppe. Called “Bubba” by his family, he loved the Lord and demonstrated that through his loving, kind spirit and helpfulness. “Bubba” attended Trinity School of Texas and Spring Hill ISD during his years in Longview. He represented Spring Hill ISD at the UIL State Tennis Tournament as a Sophomore. Graduating High School in 2000 from Rockwall ISD, he played on their tennis team, advancing to UIL Regionals. He continued his outstanding tennis endeavors at Collin County Community College for two years. James began tennis at a young age and continued his love of the game as an adult – he taught tennis and organized tournaments throughout his life at different clubs in Dallas. He added volleyball to his favorite pastimes and began coaching it as well. James loved traveling, coaching, listening to music, and playing tennis, volleyball, and golf.
James is survived by his mother, Denise Soppe, siblings, Tracy (Bobby) Ball, Shannon Hood, James Soppe, Daisy (Matt) Smith, and Coletin Soppe. Surviving aunts and uncles include Tommy and Sharon Bufkin, Frank and Suzi Bufkin, and Barbara LaBarbra. Beloved cousins include Thomas (Lauren) Bufkin, Vaughan Bufkin, Dayton Bufkin, Jason (April) Moore, and Sarah Fincher. He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, and a large number of friends, fellow coaches, players, and students. James was preceded in death by his dad Rod Willis, stepdad Jim Soppe, and grandparents Frank and Anne Bufkin and John and Dorris Willis.
Graveside services will be held at noon on Monday, November 18, 2024 at Hallsville Cemetery in Hallsville, TX.
