James J. Sherman's Obituary
James J. Sherman, a beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, was born in Chicago, IL on February 17, 1951, and he passed away peacefully on February 19, 2024, in Longview, TX, at the age of 73. He was the cherished son of Francis Sherman and Pearl Bernard Sherman, husband of Lynell Sherman, and the loving father of Heidi Ashley, Dawn Calhoun, James Francis Sherman, and Dustin Sherman.
James met the love of his life, Lynell Koranda, while still in high school in Chicago. He had the pleasure of taking her to her Senior Prom. They were married on December 12, 1971, and they remained together until her passing in 2018. They have once again been reunited for all of eternity.
Throughout his life, James dedicated himself to the construction industry, showcasing his dedication to hard work and his commitment to building a better future. His passion for his craft was evident in every project he undertook, leaving behind a legacy of sturdy craftsmanship and unwavering determination. He worked for H.B. Zachry Construction until his retirement.
James will be remembered fondly by all who knew him for his kind heart, selflessness, and unwavering work ethic. His presence brought light and joy to those around him, and his legacy will continue to inspire and comfort all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. James loved to fish, but his greatest achievement in life was being the “World’s Best Dad” to his children. That title carried over to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His biggest joy in life was spending time with family and friends.
He is predeceased by his parents, Francis and Pearl Sherman, wife Lynell, brother Donald Sherman, and sister Mary Sherman.
He is survived by his children, Heidi Ashley, Dawn Calhoun and husband Tony, James Francis Sherman, and Dustin Sherman and wife Alicia. Also left behind to continue his legacy are 15 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. His memory will be cherished by his sisters, Suzy Giammona, Loretta Eberhart, Linda Sherman, and Jeanine Harding.
A funeral Mass to honor and celebrate James's life will be held on Friday, February 23,2024, at 1:00 PM, at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Longview, TX.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Cousin Sandy Morales. Her frequent visits to drink coffee and check on James will forever be cherished.
