James Oliver Shaffner's Obituary
Funeral services for James Oliver Shaffner, 84, of the Oak Hill Community, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, March 19, 2010, at the Lakeview Baptist Church on FM 2011 with Rev. Ted White officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Henderson.
Mr. Shaffner died Monday, March 15, 2010, at a Longview hospital.
He was born October 9, 1925, in Houston, Texas to Clinton and Ethel Shaffner and had been a resident of Rusk County for more than 60 years.
Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy shortly after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After his naval service, Mr. Shaffner learned the floor covering trade. He was employed by several businesses before starting his own floor covering service in Longview, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Albert Shaffner and Ray Allen Shaffner; and a sister, Ruth Crowder.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years Geraldene Shaffer of the Oak Hill Community; son, James Kenneth Shaffner of Longview; daughters, Karen Morris of the Oak Hill Community and Patricia Aiken and husband Dewayne of the Oak Hill Community; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 PM.
