James O. Meyer's Obituary
Memorial services will be held at a later date for James O. ?Jim? Meyer, 74, of Longview. Jim passed away Tuesday morning, September 5, at his residence following a two year battle with cancer. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.Jim was born September 16, 1931 in Longview to Otto H & Mabel Malone Meyer and had been a lifetime resident here. Jim served tours in both the Navy and the US Coast Guard. During his time in the Coast Guard he was stationed at Cape Spencer, Alaska, where he manned the lighthouse. Those years instilled in Jim a passion for lighthouses and the Coast Guard which he held the rest of his life. For a number of years following his time in the military, Jim worked as a parts manager for a local auto dealer. Jim was survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Hansel Kincaid, of Midland; cousin, Glen Cleaver, of Fort Worth; and a host of extended family and friends.
