James Harold "Jody" Modisette's Obituary
Funeral services for James Harold “Jody” Modisette of Longview will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2018 at the Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dr. James “Jimmy” Cantey officiating. Burial will follow in Elmira Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
Mr. Modisette was born March 26, 1934 in Longview. He grew up in Louisiana and White Oak and attended White Oak schools where he participated in football, basketball, baseball and track. He went to State Finals in the pole vault and played basketball at Kilgore College. He enlisted in the Army and served in Korea. He was employed with Texas Eastman for 40 years as an Operator, Foreman and Production Assistant. Mr. Modisette attended Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church for decades and served as an Elder and on the Building and Grounds Committee and was Elder Emeritus. If anything needed fixing, replacing or painting, he took care of it along with his friends in the church. He was a Spring Hill School Board member and served as President.
Mr. Modisette enjoyed duck hunting and fishing. He helped organize and conduct Men-and-boys and Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp-outs for many years. He was an avid vegetable gardener and his garden got bigger every year, with enough tomatoes for all of Spring Hill.
He was caregiver for his parents and in-laws, and was preceded in death by his brothers, Curtis Modisette and Charles Modisette.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dr. Barbara Jane Modisette; three sons, John Philip Modisette, James Bret Modisette and wife Della Denise Modisette, and Jay Hensley Modisette; brother, J.D. Modisette; sister, Pattie Stapleton; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was blessed with many friends from Elmira Chapel Church, Texas Eastman and the Spring Hill community.
