James Dallas May
Mr. James Dallas May, known by all in Texas as Jim and by his family and friends in North Carolina and Ohio as Dallas, at the age of 80 went to be the Lord on June 3rd, 2016.
He was born in Sugar Grove, NC on August 22, 1935 to Dexter and Mary May, now deceased. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 43 years Lu May, grandson Josh Bryan, brothers Walter May and Joe May. He is survived by his daughter Sonvya Duncan and her husband Joe, son Scott May, two great grandsons Alex and Sam Bryan, many nieces and nephews, his wonderful companion of 18 years Vennie Jones and her children Michael Jones and Phoebe Simmons and their spouses, brother Dennis May, his sisters Irene Hill and Joyce Neblet.
Mr. May and his family moved to Longview, TX in 1963 from Cincinnati, OH where he was very happy to be away from the cold and snowy winters of the north. His first job in Texas was driving a truck for Dr. Pepper, he was then accepted in the IBEW apprentice program and worked for L. E. Myers until he began his business, May Pilot Car Service, and he retired in 1995. He was recently honored as a 50 year member of IBEW.
Jim was a serious fisherman and involved in the East Texas Bass Anglers and Honey Hole tournaments for many years until his health would not allow him to fish any longer.
Visitation will be Saturday the 11th at 1pm at Rader Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 2pm in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, Longview. The family would like to thank Heart’sWay Hospice and the caring nurses from Good Shepherd in ICU and the hospice floor for everything they did to care for him and keep him comfortable and to Rader Funeral Home for their guidance in making the arrangements.
