James Frank "Jim" Magness' Obituary
James Frank (“Jim”) Magness, 93, of Longview, Texas, passed away on Monday, January
29, 2018 following a brief illness. Jim was born January 10, 1925, in Honey Grove, Texas to Evelyn Louise Magness. He was raised by his grandparents, Frank and Claire Oglesby in Terrell, Texas. He graduated from Rice University in 1944 and University of Michigan in 1948 with a Masters in Chemical Engineering. He served as a Lieutenant in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War. On August 25, 1947 he married the former Jimmie Sue Holland in Houston, Texas. Jim was employed as a chemical engineer by
Eastman Kodak at the chemical plant in Longview, Texas from 1960 until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of First Methodist Church.
A funeral will be held at Rader Funeral Home, Longview, Texas at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2018.
Jim is survived by his sons, Frank Holland Magness and wife, Linda; Bradley George Magness; Glenn Alan Magness and wife, Jaton; and daughter, Kathryn Louise Denton and husband, Paul. His grandchildren Sam Magness; Alex and Julie Magness; Nathan Magness; Julie Ann Magness; Courtney and Ben DeLarosa; Jake and Hannah Magness. Seven great grand children and numerous nieces & nephews also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Holland Magness; parents, Evelyn and George Patton; and grandparents, Frank and Claire Oglesby.
The family wishes to thank the following for their love and support: Joan Rathbun, Sharon Shaw, Sherilyn Hunter, Michelle Waymire and James “Bubba” Holt. Special thanks to Carrie Russell who showed him so much love and care over the past year.
