James Lee Hixon
Funeral services for James Lee Hixon, 72, of Longview will be held at 2 PM Monday, June 9, 2003 at Mobberly Baptist Church with Dr. Laney Johnson and Dr. Gregg Zackary officiating. Burial will be in Okmulgee Cemetery in Okmulgee, OK., at 10 AM Tuesday, June 10. Services are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 PM Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Hixon went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at his residence in Longview, Texas. Jim was born September 13, 1930 in Seminole, OK to Wayne Jesse Hixon and Lavera Chrystal Goins Hixon. He was married February 2, 1952 to Helen Grace Moravits. They were happily married for 52 years. He worked most of his live in the oil patch, and retired from Axelson, Inc., now owned by Halliburton, in 1997 after 35 years service. He attended school at Prairie View Schools and graduated from Seminole High School. After several years in college, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1950, and obtained the rank of Staff Sergeant and finished his tour of duty in 1954. He loved guns, knives, fast cars, and virtually every sport known to man. He loved to hunt and was a die-hard OU-Sooner fan. His greatest loves were his family and his Lord. He was a member of Mobberly Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon for many years. He was also and Ordained Southern Baptist Minister and had pastored several churches in OK. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lavera and Wayne Hixon; and his son, James Lee Hixon, Jr. Survivors include his loving wife Helen Hixon of Longview; his daughters and son-in-law, Sharon and Sonny Contreras of Norman, OK., and Barbara Hixon and family from Dallas; son and daughter-in-law, David and Jennifer Hixon of Idabel, OK.; grandchildren, Connie and Christal Contreras of Norman; Derek, Micah, Lauran, Caleb, Gabrielle, and Olivia Hixon of Idabel; and Aryn and Bryce Henderson of Dallas; 5 great grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mobberly Baptist Church, 625 E. Loop 281, Longview, TX 75605.
