James "Jim" Thomas Mitchell's Obituary
James “Jim” Mitchell, 70, of Longview, Texas, passed away on August 19, 2025. He was born on August 15, 1955, in Columbus, Ohio.
Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army before beginning a long career with Philips Petroleum in the Houston, Texas area. Later, he dedicated himself to serving others as a Licensed Vocational Nurse, working in correctional facilities and caring for elderly people in the Longview community.
A man of deep faith, Jim was devoted to the ACTS (Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service) program of the Catholic Church, where he found strength, fellowship, and purpose.
Jim will be remembered for his hard work, his servant’s heart, and his love of life’s simple joys. He enjoyed fishing, telling stories, and spending time working in his yard. He also had a special passion for Christmas, collecting Santas and crafting decorations that brought joy to family and friends year after year.
He was preceded in death by his father Nicholas Mitchell. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Mitchell; his mother Wanda Mitchell; his two brothers Mike and Chris Mitchell and sisters Theresa and Susan; his three sons Craig (Denise), Chris (Shay), and Tom (Desiree) Mitchell; his five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; not to mention his faithful dog, Maggie.
A service celebrating Jim’s life will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 2108 Ridgewood Dr, Longview, Texas. A rosary will be said at 2:30pm and a Funeral Mass will be conducted at 3:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the ACTS program of the Catholic Church or to a veterans’ charity in Jim’s honor.
