Funeral services for James Horace Williams will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday
November 26, 2002 at the First Assembly of God Church located at 2900 Fourth St.@Hollybrook in Longview, Texas. Reverend Randy Carter and Reverend Morris Ivey will officiate. Horace was born December 31, 1912 in Birmingham, Alabama. As professional carpenters, the family moved often;however, when the family moved to Longview in 1933. Horace stated that he was never leaving this city. He died in Longview on Friday, November 22, 2002.
Horace lived in Longview area since 1933 and served the community as a carpenter, building contractor, and dedicated employee for Cities Service Oil Company for 36 years. During his life as a general contractor, Horace built over 100 homes in the Longview area. He and his wife Ruth are very proud of their heritage with the First Assembly of God Church. While the church was still in the original brush arbor, Horace brought his Gibson guitar to church and joined the church worship band. It was in this brush arbor in 1934 that he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior and shortly thereafter met his bride to be , Ruth. As carpenters, Horace and his future father-in-law worked together building the church?s sanctuary where he and Ruth and Ruth were to be married in 1940. Horace?s hobbies included flyiing his private airplane and playing the guitar and piano. He was also a50-year member of Longview Masonic Lodge. Horace is survived by his wife Ruth, two daughters and their husbands Sharon and Norman Seaton and Marcia and Jonathan Godwin, and his sister, Jessie Zellmer of Marshall, Texas.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 p.m. Monday November 25, at the Rader Funeral Home in Longview, Texas.
