James Lee Hampton's Obituary
James Hampton, 79, of Gladewater passed joyfully from this life to a reunion with his Lord and Savior and also his cherished wife. James was covered in the hopes and prayers of his family and friends as he made his final earthly journey.
James was born in Pampa, Texas, in 1942 to Francis Lee and Mary Ann Hampton. He attended school at Carlisle in Price, Texas, before moving to Marshall, Texas, where he earned his diploma. James attended several post-secondary schools including Kilgore College, Steven F. Austin State University, and Letourneau University where he was awarded his degree in Business.
James loved to be around people as made evident in many of the jobs he pursued. James worked in the Banking industry, for the Texas Railroad Commission, and for local schools especially Spring Hill I.S.D. James enjoyed spending time on the golf course. One of prized memories was playing golf with his children and grandchildren on a slice of paradise in Hawaii. He was extremely close to his universally beloved sister, Guinlyn. Guinlyn lives in the home previously shared by James and his wife, Kay Helen, who preceded James in death.
James is survived by his sister Guinlyn Nash, and his sons, Jeffrey and Jason of White Oak, Texas, and his grandchildren Joshua Hampton, Caleb Hampton, Kaitlyn Hampton, Emily Hampton, and Jessica Hampton. Many of James’ cousins and friends are especially grieving at this time as well including the Dunfords of Oklahoma, the Yates of Iowa, Libby Greer, Robert Smith, Melvyn Wright, his canine companion Precious, and countless others. James was a devoted member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church. His church family who loved and supported him in life will miss his presence as he precedes them on the next step of his eternal journey.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Wednesday, February 3, 2021, in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Burial will follow at Rosewood Park in Longview. A memorial guestbook may be signed online at www.raderfh.com.
