James Frederick Presley
James Frederick Presley was born May 26, 1920, in Wills Point, Texas, and died January 9, 2013, in Longview, Texas. A service will be held in the chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Road, Longview, Texas, at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, with visitation at 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Mr. Presley grew up in Gilmer, Texas, and graduated from Baylor University in 1941. He began his career at Mobil Oil Company in Dallas and later became a commissioned agent with Sinclair in Longview. In 1958, he formed J. F. Presley Oil Company, a retail and wholesale gasoline distributor for American Petrofina, with locations in East Texas and the Beaumont/Houston area. He was a respected member of this industry for over 35 years.
He was co-founder and later Chairman of the Board of American Bank, an active member of First Christian Church, and proud alumnus of Baylor University.
In recent years, he resided at Buckner Westminster Place where he enjoyed the embrace of a community of many loving friends. The family wishes to thank the compassionate staff for their excellent care and Beacon Hospice for their gracious support.
He is survived by four children, Beverly Calhoun and husband, Tom, Jim Presley and wife, Terry, Jane Grant and husband, Bill, and Sara Welborn. Also surviving him are his grandchildren, Kirk Calhoun, Clark Presley, Chris Presley and Kent Welborn; and great-grandchildren, Zach, Brooke, Cameron, Kelsey, Sarah, Daniel, Trent, Cierra, and Zach. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie Coe Presley, and two grandsons, Allen Calhoun and Clay Calhoun.
His family will remember his generous spirit, his laughter, and his tender heart and compassion for others.
