James Richard Figley's Obituary
Services for James Richard Figley, 76 of Hallsville, will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at 2pm, with a visitation preceding at 1pm. Burial will follow in Rosewood Park under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. James peacefully went to be with his Lord Jesus in the early hours of Saturday morning at his home.
James was born on March 22, 1942 in Longview TX, to parents Noble “Jack” and Dovie Figley. He married the love of his life, Evelyn “Susie” Duckworth, on July 12, 1968. James was employed at Stemco for 47 years where he took great pride in his job as a forklift operator and in maintaining perfect attendance.
James was often talked about and remembered as a kind and sweet man. He was friendly to everyone he met and never met a stranger. All those around James saw what a caring husband and father he was. Most importantly, James loved Susie, his wife of 47 years, more than anything else. They still dated, held hands, and never spent longer than a weekend apart. After she passed away, James was broken hearted and ready to be reunited with his only love. He also enjoyed classic cars, football, westerns, and watching his grandchildren do what they loved. The Grandchildren always looked forward to seeing their Pawpaw and telling him about their activities. They remember how he would tell them a joke or shake their whole arm, while asking if they had a “loose joint in their elbow”.
James cherished all the time he could spend with his family. James and Susie spent many hours driving around East Texas, enjoying each other and God's wondrous Creation. Their joy was multiplied when Grandchildren were along to enjoy these rides with them.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn “Susie” Figley; parents, Jack and Dovie Figley; sister, Ruby Hardin; brother, Chester Figley; son-in-law, Terry Blakney; and an infant he never got to hold. Those remaining to cherish their memories of James include his daughters, Rhonda Blakney, Amanda Mettler and her husband Jason, and Monica Sherman and her husband Wade; grandchildren Trever Blakney, Stephanie Monk, Kayla Monk, Joseph Monk, Jacob Mettler, Brenna Mettler, Nathan Mettler, Cohle Sherman, Mason Sherman, and Luke Sherman; brother Charles Figley and wife Gail; and sister Mary Hayes. James will also be remembered by his numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
