James Black's Obituary
Funeral Services for James Ray Black, 81, of Tyler will be held at 11 am in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Henderson with Bro. Chris Cliborn officiating. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, with burial to follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Minden, TX.
Mr. Black made his final journey home on Saturday, February 14, 2026 in Tyler after a short illness. He was born on October 7, 1944 in Huntsville, TX to Don M. and Nell Black. James retired from Lake Patrol, City of Tyler in June 2001. He also served as a Tyler Police Officer, Smith Co. Deputy and Sgt in his Law Enforcement career. He was a faithful member of Community Baptist Church in Swinneytown and loved his Lord with all his heart.
Mr. Black is survived by his wife of 46 years, Sara of Tyler. Sister Linda Cannon and husband Steve of Troy, TX. Daughter Elaine Donahoe and husband Bryan. Son Paul Almond of Houston, as well as 4 grandchildren: Abbey Donahoe and Emily Donahoe, Jake and Justin Almond along with his sister-in-law Mary Beth Fitzgerald. Several nieces and nephews and special friend for over 50 years, Mike Pratt.
