Services celebrating the life of James B. ?Cotton? Moore of Longview will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Longview under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Interment will follow at Rosewood Park.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, September 1, 2003, at the funeral home at 1617 Judson Road.
Mr. Moore passed away Saturday, August 30, 2003 after a brief illness.
Mr. Moore was born September 18, 1925 in Karnack, Texas, where he grew up hunting, fishing and exploring on his beloved Caddo Lake.
He was a veteran of the United States Army and World War II. He moved to Longview in the early 1950?s, and retired from Southwestern Electric Power Company after 37 years of service at the Knox Lee Power Plant. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman, sneaking off to Caddo Lake as often as possible to catch a fish.
He also enjoyed growing vegetables for his family and friends, as well as traveling. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends, who loved him very much.
He married Minnie Maude Craig on September 27, 1947 in Karnack. She preceded him in death on March 18, 1993. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Longview, the Senior Sunday School Class and Choir, the Veterans of Foreign War, and the Dallas Caddo Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of 5 years, Evelyn Griffin Moore of Longview; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cathy Vestal of Longview, Melba and David Stevens of Arlington, and Janie and Kevin Wallace of Longview; three grandchildren, David Vestal of Ft. Knox, Kentucky, Haley Vestal and Emily Wallace both of Longview; a great grandson, John Vestal of Gladewater; one sister, Katherine Edmonds of Karnack; and a number of nieces and nephews.
