James A. Lee
Memorial services for James A. Lee, 99, of Longview will be held at Ten O?clock A. M. Friday May 24, 2002 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home 1617 Judson Road with Reverend Robert Babb officiating. Mr. Lee passed away, with his family present , on May 19, 2002 short of his 100th birthday.
He was born in Omaha, Arkansas on October 25, 1902. In March 1922 he married his childhood sweetheart, Bonnie Province, who preceded him in death in 1994 after 72 years of marriage.
Mr. Lee brought his family to East Texas in 1931 during the oil boom, where he worked for the Arkansas Fuel Oil Co.now Cities Service.
In the 50?s after his four children were grown and on their own, Mr. & Mrs. Lee moved to Dallas and worked for International Steelworkers, Inc. for several years until his retirement in 1967. They returned to the East Texas area, where he farmed, raised cattle and hay. He continued to play a prominent role in community services and politics. Mr. Lee retired from farming in 1987 and he and Mrs. Lee moved to his present residence in Longview.
He is survived and will be sorely missed by his four children, Ruth Haney of Vienna, Virginia; Max Lee of Corpus Christi, Texas; Norma Mullikin of Santa Barbara, California; and Shirley Stringer of Palm Desert, California; eight grand-children; seven great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.
