Jackie Sanders' Obituary
Jackie Sanders, a spirited and bold individual, passed away on September 6, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on October 7, 1930, in Damon, Texas, Jackie left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
After graduating from Longview High School, Jackie moved to Dallas to attend St. Paul School of Nursing. It was during her time in the city that she met Durwood Sanders, her lifelong partner of 74 years, who was studying dentistry at Baylor. Their shared faith brought them together, and they were married on February 10, 1949.
Jackie and Durwood embarked on numerous adventures together, including road trips, playing tennis with friends, hosting family Fourth of July parties at Lake Cherokee, and selling antiques at the Round Top antique show. Jackie was a talented artist and enjoyed oil painting and China painting. One of her greatest joys was having her entire family gathered around her dining table, sharing laughter and devouring her famous chocolate pie. Jackie loved spending time on her porch, enjoying coffee or iced tea and chatting with her dear friends and neighbors.
Jackie and Durwood were dedicated and devout Christians, actively involved in the Broadway Church of Christ community during their time in Lubbock, Texas and Alpine Church of Christ community while living in Longview, Texas. Their faith was a central part of their lives, and they found joy and fulfillment in their church community.
Jackie Sanders is survived by her three children and their spouses: Vickie Swindle and her husband David of Ft. Worth, Texas; Don Sanders and his wife Janita of Amarillo, Texas; and David Sanders and his wife Cam of Longview, Texas. The love and support of her children brought Jackie immeasurable joy and fulfillment throughout her life.
In addition to her children, Jackie is also survived by six grandchildren: Zach Swindle, Jordan Nicquette, Brent Ivey, Troy Ivey, Hayley Kirkpatrick, and Heather Lindsey. They were a source of love, pride, and happiness to Jackie, and she cherished the time spent with each of them.
Jackie also leaves behind twelve great-grandchildren, whose presence brought her immense joy and delight.
She lived life fearlessly, expressing her opinions and standing up for what she believed in. Her indomitable spirit, love for her family, and passion for creating cherished memories will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family expresses deep gratitude to Tess and Tracy from Heart to Heart Hospice, as well as caregivers Michelle Yarbrough and Madonna Haucuja. The family is sincerely thankful for their dedication and the special bond formed with Jackie.
