Graveside services for Jack L. Smith, 83, of Longview will be 1 pm Monday, October 20, 2014 at Lakeview Memorial Gardens under direction of Rader Funeral Home. Mr. Smith was born on November 9, 1930 in Marshall, Texas to Leon King and Ruth Elsie Smith and he died Saturday, October 18, 2014 in Longview.
Jack had worked for Texas Eastman for over 35 years. He was an operator/inspector.
Papa Jack Smith was a constant source of kindness and good humor to his family and friends. Always full of spirit and wit, his lively stories and generous kitchen delighted all whom he and his loving wife, Virginia, welcomed into their home. He will be dearly missed, but always remembered in our hearts and fondest memories.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lee Smith of Longview; Daughters: Kelly Carroll of Longview and Linda Shelton and husband, Phil of Lake Cherokee; Grandchildren: Michael Smith and Amanda Smith of Longview, Bartlette Fleming of Bellville, TX and Carey Russell of Austin; Brother-in-law: John Wheelis of Hallettsville, TX; Great Grandchildren: Jack Kingston Fleming and Houston Burr Fleming, and Sayler Lee Fleming of Bellville, TX.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Larry Smith; his brothers, Wayland Smith and L.K. Smith Jr., his mother and father-in-law, Helen Mae and Lee Wheelis.
