Jack Pattillo's Obituary
Jack Pattillo, who passed away Wednesday, February 9, 2005, was born February 7, 1921 in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Lola and Jack Pattillo, Sr.
Mr. Pattillo graduated from East Mountain High School where he was selected ?Best All-Around Boy? for three consecutive years. He was a member of the All-District football team and graduated at the head of his class.
In 1940 jack volunteered for the navy in which he served six years. Most of his duty was in the submarine service. He distinguished himself at this time by being the youngest man to achieve the rank of Chief Petty Officer.
At the end of World War II, he enrolled in the University of Oklahoma, majoring in petroleum and mechanical engineering. He was a member of Pi Epsilon Tau, honorary engineering fraternity, and was an honor graduate in the class of 1950.
In 1946 jack married Rosalie Posey with whom he had two children, Phillip David and Dinah Lea. After graduation he was employed by Gulf Oil Corporation for whom he worked thirty-three years - in both domestic and foreign assignments. He retired in 1982 and moved to Longview.
Jack was a member of Winterfield United Methodist Church where he served on the board; he was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Rosneath, Scotland and he was a member of the Eastern Star in Hawaii. After moving to Longview, Jack enjoyed hours of working in his shop; delivering Meals on Wheels, taking care of his dog, Bonnie, and watching OU play football.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Jack Pattillo, Sr., his mother, Lola Pattillo Patton, by brothers, William and Gerald, his sister, Faye Denton, and his mentor, J.C. Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Rosalie; his son, Dr. Phillip Pattillo of Tomball; his daughter, Dinah Joest of Lewisville; and his grandchildren, Michelle Benton of Tulsa, Dr. David Pattillo of Houston, Midshipman Canon Joest of Annapolis, and Jacquelyn Joest of Lewisville. His great-grandchildren include Tara Evans and Tori Conaway of Tulsa and Phillip David III of Houston.
Memorials may be made to Winterfield United Methodist Church, the American Heart Association, or All American Home Care.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Lindstrom officiating with entombment following in Lakeview Mausoleum.
Jack will be sorely missed for his sense of humor, his kind thoughtfulness, and the all-encompassing love he bestowed on those he held dear.
