Jack A. McCormick's Obituary
Jack A. McCormick, age 79, of Longview passed away February 22, 2016. He was born March 30, 1936 in Borger, Texas to DD and Zelma McCormick. Jack grew up Dumas, TX and graduated from Dumas High School. After high school he entered the United States Marine Corps where he honorably served his country for 3 years. He then came back to Dumas where he married his high school sweetheart Sarah Dooley on July 19, 1957. Jack proudly served the Dumas community as a police officer for four years. He entered the Texas National Guard and for the next 27 years served in various locations through the state until retiring in 1985. Jack was employed with the City of Longview as a purchasing agent for ten years. He was also a licensed riverboat pilot and enjoyed working in Jefferson as a Tour Boat Pilot. Jack was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church in Lakeport where he was a member of the In Celebration Choir for 15 years, served as a Deacon since 2008 and was active in the Men’s Sunday school class for over 20 years.
Those left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 58 years Sarah McCormick, two daughters Victoria Lynn Sommers and Sharon Kay McCormick; grandson Kyle Lane Newman, granddaughter Stacie Lynn Newman, great-grandson Zachary Logan Howard,
great-granddaughter Serenity Grace Newman and a sister-in-law Doris Alene McCormick.
Jacks mother, Zelma Louise Hutson, Step-dad, Robert Preston Hutson, father, DD McCormick, brothers, Donald Robert Hutson and Stanley Irwin McCormick and sister, Martha Louise Patterson all precede him in passing.
Funeral services will be 10 am Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Trinity Baptist Church in Lakeport. Interment will follow services at Rosewood Park. Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 5-7p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the David Toon Memorial Building Fund care of Trinity Baptist Church in Lakeport, Highway 80 Mission or Wounded Warriors.
