Jack N. Hook's Obituary
Jack Neil Hook, 88, of Longview passed away Wednesday October the 16th, 2013. He was born in Snyder Oklahoma, on September the 9th, 1925 and always fondly remembered the town and childhood friends.
He and his family later moved to Santa Ana, California, where he graduated from Santa Ana High School in 1943. He had enough credits to graduate in mid-term and went to work at a shipyard as a blueprint clerk. In June of that year, he enlisted in the Marines and was proud to serve the country that he loved for four years.
After the war, he continued his education while working for newspapers, the Amarillo Globe-News, as a proof reader, the Capitol Hill Beacon in Oklahoma City and the Tulsa World Tribune as a cub reporter and teletype operator at the State Capitol.
In 1953 he enrolled at the University of Oklahoma where he decided to go back to engineering. While at O.U. he met and later married his precious wife of 58 years, Molly Ann Lowery. After graduating as a petroleum Engineer, he and his family lived in Oklahoma, Louisiana, California, Arizona and Texas.
Jack always loved playing golf, fishing and reading. One of his favorite authors was Zane Grey. He read Grey’s entire collection at least 5 times and his wife once asked why he liked the books so much. He replied, “because they always have happy endings”. Those words say so much about the man. He was loving, strong and always striving for happiness, especially for others.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, A. B. and Ruby Hook, his brother Robert Joseph, and Eric Martin, his precious grandson.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Molly Ann Hook, his partner and friend. Daughter, Bobbie Prince of Bedford, Texas, Kimberly and husband David Martin of Four Oaks, North Carolina, Jill Craig of Longview, and Leslie and husband Lance Plummer of Glendale, Arizona. Grandsons, Jeff Martin of Four Oaks, North Carolina, Steven Craig of Longview, Rees and Gage Plummer of Glendale, Arizona and Granddaughter Amy.
Friends are invited to join the family for a time of fellowship and sharing 6pm Monday, October 21, 2013 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
