Jack L. Schenk
Jack L. Schenk of Longview and Paris, was received by his Lord on the Lord?s Day Sunday October 14, 2001.
Services will be at 2 PM Wednesday, October 17, 2001 at the Winterfield United Methodist Church, 2616 Tryon Road, Longview, the Reverend Gene Steger officiating, with burial at Rosewood Park in the Garden of Devotion. Mr. Schenk will receive full military honors, presented by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10373, of Jefferson, Texas. Services will be under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. The Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
''Pop'' and ''Grandpa'' as he was known to his adoring children and grandchildren, was born June 1, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, to Louis Schenk and Irene Anness Schenk. Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, he served as a 2nd Lt. In the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW11, qualifying with Class 44 K in the B-17. He married Lorraine Starnes on January 30, 1945, in Altus, Oklahoma. He moved his family from Cincinnatti to Dallas in 1955 and went to work for Collins Radio Company, which became Rockwell International and later, Alcatel, Inc. As a pioneer in microwave communications, he started what is now the Alcatel plant in Longview.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine Schenk; two sons, Larry Schenk and wife Anita of Paris, Texas; and Jim Schenk and wife Mary Lou of Palisades, Colorado; two granddaughters, Liffey Skender and husband Doug and Ellette Ezzo and her husband Patrick, and grandson Jack Edward, and two special granddaughters Tabitha Peters, and Kristina Aguirre Gaston and husband Jeff; and two great grandchildren Haley Skender and Dylan Ezzo. Special family members include Bobby Dishman, Peggy Osborne, Vivian Curry, Elaine Root, Shirley Bass, Nancy Stewart, and Carol Caswell.
With a ready wit and penchant for successful tinkering Jack was a friend to all and will be missed. The family request memorials be made to Winterfield Church and the Alzheimer?s Association.
