J. P. Kuykendall
Funeral services for J. P. Kuykendall, 85, of Longview, will be held at 10 AM Monday, November 8, 2004 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, Longview, with the Reverend Kenneth Bowden officiating. Burial will be in Gum Springs Cemetery. Mr. Kuykendall passed away Friday, November 5, at his residence.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Kuykendall was a life long resident of Longview, and a 1938 graduate of Longview High School. He was a member of the 1937 Longview Lobo football team, and helped the Lobo?s win the one and only state championship. He was also a runner. He was a senior leader at Northside Baptist Church for many years, and at Valley View Baptist Church. He served as a sergeant in the U. S. Army during WWII. Before entering the Army, he was a yard foreman for Longleaf Lumber Co. in Longview. After serving 4 years in the military, he worked for Slager Johnson?s in Monroe, Louisiana for 10 years. He then moved back to Longview, where he went to work for Axelson as a receiving clerk, and retired in 1987.
Mr. Kuykendall was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Ollie Kuykendall, sister and brother-in-law, Verna and Burton Smith, and brother, Lloyd Kuykendall.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Louise Kuykendall of Longview; step-son Wayne Page and his wife Linda of Longview; step-daughter, Janet Waldrop and her husband Ricky of Bullard; grandson, Jake Waldrop and his wife Lindsey of Flint, TX., sister, Jean Hill and husband Bob of Gladewater;
