Imogene Boorman's Obituary
The angels welcomed Imogene (Word) Boorman to Heaven on May 14, 2024, after over 96 years of life on this earth. Imogene (Immie to family and friends) was born to Charles and Beatrice (Boyd) Word in rural Cleveland County, Arkansas on October 31, 1927. She was the youngest of six and the last surviving sibling born to Charles and Beatrice. Preceding her in death were her parents, sisters Ollie Mae Waren, Frankie Wiley, and Eleanor Maupin, and brothers Tom Word, and Bill Word. Imogene was married to Tommy Boorman for over 48 years until his death in 1999 and resided in his hometown of Princeton, Texas during their life together. They were the parents of surviving children Paul Boorman (and wife Sandra) of Longview, Texas, Deborah Orozco (and husband Bobby) of San Antonio, Texas, and Warren Boorman (and wife Diane) of Plano, Texas. Missing their MawMaw are grandchildren Emily Medlock (and husband Andrew), Abagail Owens (and husband Byron), and Daniel Boorman (and fiancé’ Bailey) and great grandchildren Amelia Medlock and Sam Medlock. Many nieces and nephews who regularly paid her visits will miss their “Aunt Immie.”
In her early years she was a self-proclaimed “Tom Boy” and never lost the love of rural living. She attended schools in New Edinburg and Kingsland, Arkansas before beginning course work at Leo N. Levi Memorial Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas in preparation for a 50-year career as a registered nurse. Her nursing career started at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in McKinney, Texas and progressed to the public health arena for Collin County. Regardless of her state-of-mind in her latter years, she was available to answer medical questions, whether or not a person asked for a diagnosis.
Sweetness and caring with an occasional blunt opinion described her way of relating to people. She liked people and people liked her. She especially liked children which made her an excellent mother and kept her in the Bible classes as teacher of cradle roll preschoolers into her 80’s. Imogene was a member of the Church of Christ and she worshipped with the Princeton church for 50 years prior to moving the Longview, Texas in 2014. She worshiped with the Alpine Church of Christ once she arrived in Longview.
The family thanks the staff members of Arabella of Longview Memory Care and PrimeCare Hospice for their compassionate care during Imogene’s last days. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Princeton Cemetery Association (P.O. Box 684, Princeton, Texas 75407).
A Graveside Service will be held on, Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 11am, at Princeton Cemetery in Princeton, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home, Longview, Texas.
