Hugh W. "Bill" Burd's Obituary
Hugh William "Bill" Burd, age 98 of Henderson, TX, went home to be
with the Lord on July 5, 2017. Burd was born February 5, 1919 in Pine Hill, TX to Charles Henry Burd and Lovie Lee Brooks Burd. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army at Camp Barkeley near Abilene, TX. While there, he met and fell in love with Doris Ruth Gilmore. They were married on January 16, 1945 in Henderson, TX. After Burd left the army, he and his wife built their family in Henderson having two children, Loyd William Burd and Patricia Ruth Burd Hitt. Burd worked for many years at the Alford Dairy and later Henderson Clay and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church most of his life. He was well known, respected and loved by many. Burd is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ishmael D. Burd and Elmer Leo Burd, and one sister, Nelwyn Henrietta Burd Simpson. He is survived by his wife Doris Ruth Burd of Henderson; children Lloyd William Burd of Henderson and his wife Toni, and Patricia Ruth Hitt of Houston and her husband Lynn; grandchildren Bill Burd of Longview and his wife Shelli, Tracie Fabbiani of Longview and her husband Miguel, Harold Hitt of Denton and his wife Debbie, Amanda Rushing of Bastrop and her husband Michael; great grandchildren Cole Hitt, Brendon Burd, Zoie Taliaferro, and Niko Fabbiani; sister-in-laws Della McBride of Tuscola and Margaret Haplin of Longview.
Visitation will be held on July 6, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home,and funeral services on July 7, at 10:00 am at Rader Funeral Home in Henderson. Interment to follow at Ebenezer Cemetery. Bro. Calvin Hancock of Trinity Baptist Church of Carthage and Bro. Matt Gholson of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Henderson will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Billy Burd, Brendon Burd, Miguel Fabbiani, Harold Hitt, Micheal sdx. Rushing and Tommy Simpson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either Ebenezer Baptist Church or Angel Care Hospice. The family would also like to offer a sincere thank you to the staff of Autumn Leaves Nursing Home and Angel Care Hospice for their excellent care and love they gave to Mr. Burd.
