Howard L. Selph's Obituary
Howard Lee Selph died on January 24, 2018 in Longview. He was born on Feb. 24, 1927 in Abbott, AR, to Lee Bunyan Selph and Dora Guthrie Selph. After graduating from high school in Mansfield, AR, he was drafted into in the U.S. Army, serving from 1945-1947, during which time he was part of the occupation force in Germany. He was subsequently hired by Southwestern Electric Power Company, and continued as a part time employee while earning a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arkansas. He was then transferred to the engineering office in Longview, where he worked until his retirement in 1990.
Mr. Selph was a member of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Longview, and a long-time active member and officer of the Longview Noon Lions Club. A lifelong lover of music, he also served as a board member for the Longview Symphony.
Mr. Selph is survived by his wife of 55 years, Corinne Smith Selph, and two children, daughter Rebecca Selph Buckner and husband, Ted of Huntsville, AL. Son Doug Selph and wife, Andrea of Brentwood, TN. He has five grandchildren: Kathleen Jordan Buckner, Robert Howard Buckner and Margaret Frances Buckner of Huntsville, AL; Andrew Douglas Selph and Emilee Clare Selph of Brentwood, TN. He is also survived by brother Wade Edward Selph and wife, Laverne of Hot Springs, AR.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Monday, January 29, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church in Longview. The family will receive friends from 1-2 PM Monday prior to the service at the church.
The family request that memorial donations be made to the Texas Lion’s Camp, PO BOX 290247 Kerrville, Texas 78029, for the benefit of diabetic and sight impaired children.
