Herman Raymond Fountain
Herman Fountain, 85, of Longview passed away Friday, August 17, 2018. He was born to John and Evia Cook Fountain on March 6, 1933 in the Cox Community of Upshur County, TX. He graduated from Gilmer High School in 1950 and attended Panola Junior College on a football scholarship. He joined the Navy in 1952, serving as an engineman on a wooden minesweeper during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956. That same year, on March 26th, he married Mary Pauline (Polly) Luman in Longview TX. They had 4 children; Bruce, Lisa, Becky and Craig.
Herman was a member of the baptist faith serving through the years as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, bus ministry and was an active member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason with 50+ years with the Pine Tree Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and daughter Lisa Williams. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Polly, son Bruce (Jayna) Fountain of Alba, daughter Becky (Steve) Sherwood of Tyler, and son Craig Fountain of Kilgore, sister Hazel (Robert) Frey of OKC, and sister Virginia Luman of Carrollton. Seven grandchildren Michelle, Shannon, Luke, Alex, Matthew, Blake, Kayla, and Colin. Five great-grandchildren Colby, Cameron, Kennedy, Jackson, and Reagan.
Services will be held Monday, August 20th, at 11:00A.M. at Oakland Heights Baptist Church. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at 2:00P.M. at LaFayette Cemetery in Upsher County, TX. His grandsons will be serving as pallbearers.
