Funeral services for Cecil Choate, 85, Hallsville will be held at Ten O?clock am Thursday October 13, 2005 at Hallsville United Methodist Church with Reverends Randy Hageman and Dale Covington officiating. Burial will follow in Hallsville Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Choate passed away Monday October 10, 2005 in Longview.
Mr. Choate was born October 8, 1920 in Nacogdoches County, Texas to Seaborn Cloy Choate and Pearl Moore Choate. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1938. He served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy during World War 11. On June 27, 1947 he married Mabel Thompson Barclay. Mr. Choate received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from SFA State Teachers College in Nacogdoches. He and his family moved to Huntington, Texas, where he began his teaching career in 1950. In 1953 they moved to Carthage, Texas and he worked in Gary, Texas, as a teacher, administrator, and basketball coach. In 1963, he moved to Hallsville where he was a school administrator until his retirement in 1982. He was active in many civic organizations in Hallsville including the Lions Club and Hallsville Chamber of Commerce. He was also an active member of his church. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Choate was preceded in death by his wife Mabel Thompson Barclay Choate, his parents, and his brother Robert Nathan Choate.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Marilyn Choate of San Antonio, and Jack and Nan Barclay of Pasadena, daughters and sons-in-law, Celia and Dr. Kenneth Carlile of Marshall and Janie and Howard Athey of Fort Worth, grandchildren, Angela Jane Stephens, Byron Keith Barclay, Howard Anderson Athey, Hollis Thompson Barclay, Zachary Quinton Carlile, Cameron Choate Carlile, Tyler Matthew Choate, Reagan Kyle Choate, Carson Nathan Choate, and Tatum Amanda Choate; great-grandchildren, Caroline Stephens, Barclay Stephens, Megan Barclay Brooks, Barclay, Anderson Barclay, Holly Barclay, Preston Barclay, Sarah Athey, Virginia Grace Carlile, Kenneth Quinton Carlile 11, and niece Dr. Pamela Etchison.

The Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday October 12, 2005
from 6pm until 8 pm.
